The Jagr an Times | Chhattisgarh, Balconagar, October 18, 2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, organised the concluding programme of Nutrition Month 2026. A series of activities were conducted to raise awareness about child nutrition, promote healthy eating habits and strengthen community participation in child development. Organised under BALCO’s ‘Arogya’ project and ‘Nand Ghar’ initiative, the campaign reached more than 1,500 children, mothers and caregivers across 28 Nand Ghars. The initiative focused on promoting better child nutrition in line with the objectives of the Government of India’s Poshan Abhiyaan.

During the campaign, families were made aware of the importance of nutrition in children’s physical growth, learning abilities and overall health. Mothers and caregivers participated in awareness sessions, children’s weight and growth assessments, and discussions on balanced diets and healthy eating practices. Demonstrations on preparing nutritious dishes using locally available food ingredients were also conducted to encourage families to incorporate these practices into their daily lives.
Mr. Rajesh Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Whole-time Director of BALCO, said, “Our healthcare initiatives are designed to address the needs of people across all age groups, with child nutrition being one of our key priorities. Through initiatives such as Nutrition Month, we strive to raise awareness about nutrition and preventive healthcare in collaboration with the community. Reaching more than 1,500 parents and health stakeholders during this month is an important step in this direction. We are grateful for the trust and participation of community members. We will continue our collective efforts to ensure better health and a brighter future for children.”
The campaign also featured demonstrations on preparing fresh, hot meals and activities to promote nutrition gardens. Participants were informed about the nutritional benefits of millets, pulses and seasonal vegetables. Families were encouraged to use locally grown produce to improve the nutritional well-being of children and other household members. In addition, community meetings brought together parents, self-help groups, Panchayat representatives and local residents to strengthen their involvement in nutrition-related initiatives. These efforts aimed to foster a shared sense of responsibility towards children’s health and development.
Sharing her experience of the programme, Mrs. Chandrakanta Mahilane of Satnam Nagar said, “The session provided us with useful information on preparing balanced and nutritious meals for children using ingredients easily available at home. We learned about the types of food needed to support children’s weight gain, improve digestion and promote overall health. The information shared was simple and practical, and we can apply it in our homes to take better care of our children.”
The month-long campaign concluded with a Nutrition Month celebration organised at the cluster level. The programme featured nutrition-themed competitions and community activities. The initiative reaffirmed BALCO’s commitment to improving maternal and child health and contributing to the development of a healthy and empowered community.
